Warren Heid designed and built more than 300 buildings in the Saratoga area, including the Inn at Saratoga boutique hotel.
Known widely for his expansive toy train collection, Heid was an enthusiast with a toy train collection dating back to the early 1900s. Mr. Heid passed away in 2018. The Heid bar celebrates local legend Warren Heid by not only naming the bar and a cocktail in honor of him, but by displaying one of his favorite model trains in The Inn at Saratoga lobby.
Heid was born in 1924 in Alameda, California to Evan and Erna Heid. Not only was he a sergeant in the Airborne Signal Corp during WWII, he also graduated from Los Gatos High and then UC Berkeley with a degree in architecture. After graduating with departmental honors, Warren Heid went to work for his uncle’s firm at Binder and Curtis and soon after opened his own office in Saratoga where he worked for the next 50 years.
Warren Heid married his childhood friend, Sheila Stanfield, in 1948 and had two children, William Jeffrey Heid, landscape architect, and Susan Walsh, a retired elementary school teacher. Heid was also a member and former president of the Saratoga Rotary Club, a member of the Saratoga Men’s Club, a member of the Saratoga Heritage Preservation Commission, a director of the Saratoga Historical Foundation, and a director of the Montalvo Association.
